Hello everybody! I found this article in the Buffalo News and thought it was extremely inspirational for everyone to hear about and really awesome for the education majors in our class. There is an organization called Dot to Dot Children's Books that was founded by a college graduate named Kevin McCaffrey, who traveled to the Congo in Africa. There was a lot of horrible fighting happening and he wanted to help the women in the Congo earn money so they could become independent and safe during these turbulent times in Africa. A lot of people cast doubt upon his idea of helping these women gain independence by saying they have no skills. He noticed that these women were naturally gifted storytellers and were able to put on wonderful plays. This is when he got the idea to have these women create children's books. This has grown into a major organization and has spread to many countries. They have realized that by helping the women and children in the community, the whole community benefits. The books are adorable and you can purchase them off the website. All of the profits from purchasing these books goes to charities involved in creating the books.  Most of the charities support education for kids around the world. I really think this is an amazing organization and you should definitely check it out!

  1. That sounds really cool! I think it's great this organization is helping communities in Africa raise money, and children in schools are also benefiting from learning about different cultures in these books.
