Blog Post 4

After the presentations today, I wanted to post my introduction before Wednesday. I wanted to read it in class because I believe it sums up my essay in a paragraph. See what you guys think!:

One of America’s most controversial debates surrounds abortion. A woman’s right to choose and whether or not a woman should have that right, always sparks heated arguments in society and politics. One may believe that abortion should be banned except on extenuating circumstances; abortion promotes promiscuity and is a crime like committing murder. Despite all these opinions what is not taken into consideration is the idea that abortion is not an easy choice for any woman to make. Like many topics in the male dominant society the voice of the female perspective is overlooked even in matters that only effect the body’s of women. The woman ultimately is the one whose body goes through that change and has to deal with the mental and emotional consequences. Throughout the course we have read several different pieces of writing by different woman writers from all walks of life. These differences, I have learned, are what make a culture so great; every woman writes from a different perspective because of where and how they have lived. Despite that fact, the stance from real woman on abortion has been unanimous. Feminist writers Anne Sexton and Gwendolyn Brooks both presented pieces in the anthology from this semester that has highlighted their voice and stance on this very personal and critical decision. “the mother” by Gwendolyn Brooks and “The Abortion”  by Anne Sexton highlight abortion not only from a statistical and political mind frame but from the voice and opinion of actual woman.
