Blog Number 3: Wolf-Alice

With a title like Wolf-Alice, it was only a matter of time until I blogged about it. I have never read quite an identity story like this. It is a different approach from other female writers who celebrate and explain coming into womanhood in a more relatable sense, because every female must encounter puberty and situations in life that shape her identity. Relating to a wolf woman is difficult. People who do relate are included in this link (whether you believe in hoaxes or not)http://listverse.com/2008/03/07/10-modern-cases-of-feral-children/. This story was based on these and other awful cases that bring up the age old question of nature versus nurture. Are children born with some aspects of identity intact or does nature play the only or larger role in development? Feel free to give your opinion in the comments. The character in this story ("Wolf-Alice") is a child raised by wolves who, consequently, does not know how to be a human. She behaves exactly like a wolf and does not realize that she is a human. She howls and curls into a ball to sleep as if "the fur she thought she wore melted into her skin and become part of it, although it does not exist".
"Wolf-Alice" has elements of the stories of "Little Red Riding Hood" ( due to the combination of the wolf and Red Riding Hood characters).  Beauty and the Beast (as she lives with the lonely werewolf Duke and acts as his caretaker), and Lewis Carroll's Through the Looking Glass (as she searches for a companion and identity in the mirror she finds). This story was one of my favorite pieces we have read this year for its erotic depiction of this poor "wolf girl" and especially for the sexualization of her first period. Menustration is gross but the thought of it coming from a man biting the vagina tenderly or calling the bloof "natural juices" sounds sensual and strong. This was an interesting story and I would like to read more like this in the future.
