Blog Post 2: "My Fight For Birth Control"

I really enjoyed Marget Sanger's piece on her view of birth control. I agree with Sanger on a lot of points. Birth control should be viewed as a free speech issue and there should not be as much controversy around, although I do understand the opposing sides concern. A women should be able to make her own choices when it comes to her body, especially when the topic involves bringing a child into this world.  Also, some women don't even take birth control to prevent child birth. Some women need to take it for a hormonal imbalance they have that they were born with and some women take it to help with  problems they may have with their menstrual cycle. I agree with the point that was made in class, taking away the ability for a women to get pregnant to a certain degree makes a women lead more of a man's life and that can be very threatening to a man. One of the most prominent biological differences between a man and a woman is the fact that women can bare children and men can't, take that a way and women are just that much more on the same level as a man. I liked the point that Sanger made in her piece where she writes "...pregnant women toiling early and late to give food for four or five children, always hungry..." Some families simply can not afford to have a lot of children financially and being on birth control helps lessen the chance of bringing in children to the word when you can not financially provide for them the way that children need to be. Sanger was a very controversial person and had very radical ideas that put her in a bad light in the public light. Below is a link to some of Margret Sanger's quotes on some very controversial issues so you can get a better idea of where she stood on a lot of issues like abortion and premarital sex.
