Video Response

The video's on the three speakers we watched in class were especially interesting. The best part about them, I thought, was the fact that all three speakers presented with such passion in which they were speaking about. You could hear the sincerity in their voices and the dedication to stand for what they believe in. Each video consisted of alot of energy and facts that were at times very mind blowing. For instance, the stories that Isabel Allende was describing were hard to take in. The devistating stories about the women who were so strong and fought for themselves and their families including their children in order to servive were just absolutly breath taking. I sincerely enjoyed the Courtney Martin presentation and how she incorporated that her views were based off of her mothers but she still had her independent beliefs where she branched off. One of the most heart warming parts was when she spoke about her father and how supportive he was and how he quit his job to support women.

  1. I agree with you! Especially on the Isabel Allende stories, she mentioned women like Rose Mapendo (who had 7 kids and 2 twins) who got her family out alive of the refugee camps, or Jenny the "dentist" who put many people out of their misery by performing dangerous surgeries. It's amazing how in backward societies women are put down the most! Or how men think that they're in the right for beating their wife for not having dinner ready.
Allende even said it herself, "Men run the world, but look at this mess!"

Courtney Martin also was very inspiring. She didn't have the most heart wrenching of stories, but she did excite me in other ways. She co-edits the website Feministing.com and explains that there are soo many women in this world with different backgrounds, ages, races, classes, etc... We should all get involved in the movement!
"We don't want one face," she says.

Personally, I thought Megan Kamerick was my favorite because she showed the audience many examples of how society erases women from the picture (literally). You don't realize how many times women are put down or ignored until someone presents it!
