BLOG 1-Ashley Huten
At first I didn't care too much for Virginia Woolfe. More than half of the reason for that is simply because it was a hard read, hard to understand, and most of her concepts were difficult to grasp. However, now that we've had discussions and I've looked more into the story "A Room of Ones Own", I've grown to aspire Ms. Woolfe. I look up to her and find her piece of work to be quite remarkable. I decided to do my first blog assignment on this piece because the quote "Juliet Shakespear just as talented as her brother but recieves no education" really caught my attention. Simply because I find it funny that in the history of the past women were literally "not allowed" the right to an education. That women didn't need one because their duties were to be at home doing the household tasks. The funny thing about this is that now , in this day and age, it seems to be more women getting an education over men. Looks like the tables have turned. I've been reading on some statistics and it really is true. Here is a link to an article describing that our country has 42% males enrolled in college and the rest are women. http://www.nytimes.com/2006/07/09/education/09college.html?pagewanted=all
