Video Response
I enjoyed the videos we watched today. They were very informational and enlightening. I liked Allende because she brought a lot to the table. She made all of her stories and experiences connect to each other and give us the bigger picture. I always find it amazing when women look outside of their own lives and cultures and experience how women in the Congo or India survive. I'm doing The Vagina Monologues at SUNY Fredonia and it is my 2nd year. I find it so heartbreaking when i express these true stories of women just like us. It is also uplifting. They deserve their stories to be told so maybe there can be progress and change. I did not find Courtney very appealing because of her age and experience. She seemed very child like and someone who doesn't really understand the world. I'm not saying that young women can't change the world, they can. I just didn't like how she presented herself and what she stood for. I really enjoyed Meghan. She was funny and intellectual. Her views were given to me in a great way and i agreed and disagreed with what she had to say.
I agree i really enjoyed Isabel Allende talk, she had a way of talking that really captivated her audience and made them laugh. I thought her Olympics story was pretty funny and i liked the quote she ended with: "lets make this world good, not better" Courtney was very young but i agree she definitely had a voice to be heard! i liked that she mentioned her parents in her talk and how much they influenced her views on feminism growing up. I also liked that she said her mom is her biggest influence because i feel like a lot of us could agree that our moms have a big influence on our life.
ReplyDeleteI actually found Courtney Martin's lecture most interesting; maybe because I found her more relatable than the other speakers since she was so young. I thought she brought up some really good points about how it is crucial for women to reject the past and then reclaim it as their own. I do agree that Isabel Allende and Megan Tamerick are probably more realiable sources since they are more mature women, but I thought it was interesting to see from a younger perspective about women portrayal, as well.
