While reading A room of ones own and the biography of Virgina Wolf Ive been trying to decide whether im a fan or not. I was talking to my mom about my classes and mentioned Virgina Wolf and she said she also read about her in college, along with a few other people who are English majors here at Fredonia. Obviously someone who is so widely read and known must have some importance to woman's history. At first the reading seemed a bit confusing, she came off as a little scatter brained and condescending. But once i started reading A room of ones own I had gotten used to her writing and could enjoy it. Her fiction really does help to get a feel for how the women in this time period felt. I was astonished that women could not say they have a place of their own, i mean everyone needs some time to their selves everyday. I think a lot of the story was summed up by Mr. Oscar saying "Nothing could be expected from women Intellectually" on page 42. Most men seemed to feel this way and weren't afraid to express it. For example how men hit their wives and found no shame in it. I couldn't help but draw some similarities to a book I read in high school called City of Light
Has anyone else read it? ( The time period has a lot of similarities involving woman's rights at the time)
